One option is taking the bus, which is incredibly affordable and offers regular departures from San Jose’s Terminal 7-10.
The bus ride takes about 4-5 hours, but the journey is scenic and can be an opportunity to take in the gorgeous countryside surrounding you.

This was just the beginning of the wet season, so I did have some rain to deal with without it creating any huge issues for me. However, your level of experience as a driver will probably influence whether you feel confident or not!
It is smart to book in advance to ensure availability, especially during the peak travel season.
You can also find various car rental companies in San Jose, including international brands and local businesses, all offering different models and prices to fit your budget and preferences.

Although the route can be challenging at times, with winding roads and steep inclines, it is a scenic drive that offers breathtaking views of the cloud forests, rolling hills, and charming towns along the way.
